I've been dating a Kenyan man for about 2 1/2 months now. He's so great, he cares about me a lot! He's very sweet, and I'm starting to really fall for him. He speaks English very well, and I'm starting to pick up Swahili a little bit, but sometimes we still have miscommunications and misunderstandings. I have a lot of experience with different cultures, and I know that relationship dynamics can be very different accross cultures. So I'm hoping someone out there can give me a little insight into the inner workings of a Kenyan man's mind :-) (His dad is Maasai and his mom is Kikuyu) In general, what are some things I could do in the relationship that would make him go, ';wow!'; I also want to attempt to cook him a Kenyan meal some night, so if anyone has a recipe they'd like to share with me that would be greatly appreciated:-)Any advice on how to treat a Kenyan man?
Well, in Kenya, they say, ';The way to a man's heart is through his stomach'; So, I would recommend you buy some Kale and make a stew with some meat in it and some polenta!!. Kenyan men dont like nosy women. Kenyan men hate gossipy women. They love a well groomed woman. Esp. your hair and nails. Dont dress like a ho*, but well. Kenyan men also love a woman's uninterrupted attention, they are very jealous. Watch your tongue!!! Dont talk about other men, converse with other men when he is around except when its all about work. Kenyan men are also very private. When he is upset, dont push for answers or ask too many questions, let him cool off first. Tend to him like a flower garden. Dont TELL him to do something, ASK him to do something. If you shout at a Kenyan man = he'll clamp up like an oyster and to get him to open up to you again will be a major issue. As for recipes, google kenyan foods. Enjoy ur selfAny advice on how to treat a Kenyan man?
Visit the country to learn and eperience the culture People outside of their countries of c origin will have a hybrid culture but often tend to need to go back to their roots as they age and will want mor eof their original culture intheir lives. This may or may not be beneficial if that person, esp male has a selfish attitude or self-esteem /macho issues which can lead to abuse. There is often a courting period in many cultures, especially African or Middle Eastern-especially to women outside of their culture- that involves lots of spoiling and attentiveness but that can be over within a few months and develop into other less attractive behaviour. You need to be realistic and have your own goals as well as your desire to please a spouse.
So I would say live the experience but set your alerts up to any type of behaviour that would be unacceptable to you.
I am Kenyan Man. Hakuna Ujaja mwingine , Love Him and he will Love you too.
Also try cooking him chapati. Or pilau/pilaf. If you meet his parents, try greeting them in Kikuyu by saying ';Wimwega'; (meaning are you well?). It's respectful and will impress them.
Nicely, treat him the way you like to be treated.
ok i dont know if i'm qualified to answer your question but i'll do my best. Im 16 yrs old, born and raised in Mombasa Kenya. I dont know much about Maasais but I hear they are good people but Kikuyus.....not so much. If you want to wow him. Cook him the kikuyu meal of Githeri..ithink it is what they call it. It is very simple to make and all kikuyus seem to love it (I hate it by the way). All you do is boil beans and boil hard maize and mix it together. add some of your spices (curry, garam masala, e.t.c) Its that simple. also give him a backrub, footrub, things of that nature. American women are independent but kenyan women are submissive and w e seem to like it that way.. Oh and try to be interested in his culture, if it is Kenya independence today, moi day, carnival, e.t.c any Kenyan holiday remind him, like say happy Jamuhuri day or something, im sure he will be wowed that you even know. here is a list of our holidays
